Theory and Practice of Online Learning
In 2004 Athabasca University, a distance education institution, published a book sharing much of their current thoughts on online learning. It was offered as an open website, a free PDF download, and also a print publication. The book was a raging success, downloaded many thousands of times (90,000+ as of May 2008) and sold out in both printings. The second edition was produced by AU Press and went on to win the Charles A. Wedemeyer Award by the University Continuing Education Association, which recognizes publications of merit that make significant contributions to research in the field of distance education.
A circuit board, glyphs, patterns...the design was meant to subtly reference bridging old and new languages of learning, like a modern a Rosetta stone.
