Victims of Crime, Course Assignment
[you can directly interact with this learning object]
This is an immersive assignment where a student assumes the role of a victimologist who writes a report for a fictional coroner’s inquest. However, the story is based on a real story, the tragic unsolved death of Caralyn King. View the facts of the case, photographs of Caralyn and her living environment. Watch video statements from a community activist, a retired vice policewoman, and Caralyn’s mother. Read or listen to the poem written by Caralyn’s mother, which is like a victim impact statement. One of the goals of the assignment was to show how the definition of who is a “victim” and who is a “criminal” shift.
